In India and around the world, heart disease is no longer associated only with the elderly. A report by the Escorts Heart Institute and Research Center in New Delhi states that cardiovascular diseases are on the rise in younger adults (40 years and above), and that in the next 10 years, heart problems will account for more than half of the deaths in India.
A World Health Organization (WHO) study says that over the past 40 years, cardiovascular diseases in India have quadrupled, and that by 2020, approximately 60% of the world’s cardiac patients will be Indian.
