Best apps for your phone
One of the most important considerations when buying a smartphone is the apps you can download on it. Here’s our pick of the best apps for your iPhone, Android, BlackBerry or Nokia
If you don’t own a smartphone or haven’t browsed an app store, you may be surprised at the volume and ingenuity of what’s on offer. Mobile apps can help you with your business, social life, travel, communication and much, much more. There are apps to help you monitor your expenses, identify songs and give you first aid advice, as well as full office suites that let you view and edit spreadsheets and documents.
Then, of course, there are video game apps. These are a far cry from games such as Snake that you used to play on your old Nokia, and come with sophisticated graphics and immersive gameplay. As the smartphone market grows, more and more major video game companies are starting to develop titles purely for smartphone operating systems.
More than anything else, apps are what distinguish smart phones from ordinary ones. Apple’s iconic iPhone owes its success in large part to the number and variety of apps you can download from its App Store. Similarly, phones featuring Google’s Android operating system owe the major part of their success to the Android Market, which features hundreds of thousands of apps.
While the Apple App Store and Android Market are far ahead of their competitors, other mobile operating systems such as Blackberry OS, Symbian and Windows Phone 7 also feature a fair number of apps that are worth checking out.
In this report, we cut through the clutter and give you our pick of the best mobile apps for each of these platforms.
