Buying an all-in-one PC
An all-in-one PC combines many of the advantages of the desktop PC and the laptop in one convenient package. Popular all-in-one PCs include the Apple iMac, the Lenovo IdeaCentre B500, Dell Inspiron One 2310 and the HP Pavilion MS214, among others.
Like a laptop, the all-in-one is relatively compact and easy to set up; just plug in the keyboard, mouse and power supply, and you’re up and running. The simple, one-box design is also less bulky and noisy than a PC unit with a separate monitor and chunky cables running between the two. On the downside, it’s not usually upgradable beyond adding more RAM, while a tendency to use laptop components means that an all-in-one won’t usually have the performance of a similarly priced desktop PC. Besides, all-in-ones also use more power than a laptop and they’re more expensive.
