The right steam iron won’t just give you better results; it will cut down the time you spend at the ironing board, too
Clothes – especially cottons and linens – look drab and lifeless if not ironed properly, but not too many people enjoy this chore. However, you can speed up the process by investing in a Right Choice steam iron. We’ve tested eight of the most popular models for their ironing performance, ease of use and descaling ability (see ‘How we test’) to give you three Right Choices.
We also tell you what features to look for when shopping for a steam iron, offer helpful advice on ironing shirts and other awkward items of clothing, and explain the importance of choosing a good ironing board for your home.
When buying an iron, it is very important to keep in mind how much you will be ironing at a time and how often you do so.
Steam irons come with several innovative features, such as a spray nozzle, swivel cord base, self-cleaning button, and automatic shut-off. The Bajaj MX3, Optima SI 1200, Black & Decker X 1015 Type 01 and Morphy Richards Cruiser we tested come with a 360° cord swivel. However, the Orpat OEI-607, Philips GCI 115, Philips GC1621/22 and Croma CRK2046 lack this. The Philips GC1621/22 has an excellent descaling feature, but at Rs4,190, was the most expensive steam iron we tested.TO READ FURTHER... Please Login, Register or Subscribe
