Hyderabad’s eSeva to launch doorstep service
Scheme aims to bring benefits to those who live on city’s outskirts
The Andhra Pradesh government’s eSeva scheme, which offers several government and municipal services under one roof, will soon launch a doorstep service. There are 52 eSeva centres in Hyderabad, but they are mainly concentrated in the core of the city, which makes it difficult for citizens who live on the outskirts to access them. The doorstep service aims to overcome this problem. It will accept cash payment, and there will be no extra charge for the service.
Only in city for now
Yedukondalu Kumapati, deputy director of urban eSeva operations in Hyderabad, said, ‘Representatives will go to citizens’ homes and record the data on a handheld GPRS device that is connected to our office servers,’ adding that the scheme will initially be available only within Hyderabad. ‘We will slowly incorporate it around the city before launching it across the state,’ he said.
Dara Hormusji, a resident of Hyderabad, thinks that the eSeva service is extremely useful. ‘I mainly use it to pay my telephone bills. It’s convenient, as the centre is near my home,’ he says.
He adds, ‘Although the eSeva service is very convenient and has been embraced by most of us in Hyderabad, the doorstep service will be ideal for senior citizens.’
The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack also enjoy the eSeva service.
eSeva was introduced in 2001 and is extremely popular among Hyderabad residents. Some state and central government departments offer up to 80% of their services through eSeva. Here are some of its services. For the complete list, visit www.esevaonline.com
