Interior designer fined Rs1 lakh
On April 5, the Consumer Grievances Redressal Forum ordered interior designer Gurdeep Komalan to pay Rs1 lakh to a client for not completing a project on time. Sangeeta Bhasin, who owns an optician store in Mumbai, had hired Gurdeep on May 11, 2005, to refurnish her store. Gurdeep assured her the work would be done as per schedule. However, after several delays, Sangeeta terminated the contract and took Gurdeep to court. Gurdeep argued that the project was delayed because of the floods that occurred in Mumbai in 2005.
If things go wrong
-
- Draw up a contract before work starts.
- If you are unhappy with the work, make a note of the faults and organise a meeting.
- State what the problems are and ask the contractor what he can do to fix them.
- If the issue isn’t resolved, contact the contractor’s organisation and register a complaint or approach the consumer court.
