International airlines
Qatar Airways tops our survey of international airlines; Jet Airways is rated average, while Air India and Kingfisher fare poorly
OUR SURVEY
In June and July 2011, we conducted face-to-face interviews with 1,959 people in nine major cities – Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chandigarh, Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Pune – to determine satisfaction levels for the most popular airlines for international travel. All of our respondents had paid for their tickets themselves.
Qatar Airways, Singapore Airlines and Thai Airways have topped a Right Choice survey of Indians’ flying habits and preferences. We asked about 2,000 fliers about their last experience on an international airline and found that while people had complaints, none of the airlines were rated especially poor – good news if you’re planning to fly abroad any time soon.
Our survey did uncover important differences in quality among 11 major international airlines. But the gap between the best and worst performers, while discernable, wasn’t huge. They all received, with a few notable exceptions, above-average ratings from our respondents on a range of issues – from punctuality and staff courtesy to in-flight entertainment and baggage allowance.
