Know your rights to fight ‘wrong’ mobile charges
There are many ways by which you can claim refunds for unauthorised deductions
Has your mobile balance been deducted because of unwanted value-added services? Have you been billed for a caller tune that you hadn’t asked your mobile service provider for? These are common issues, but when customers ask their service provider for a refund, they are usually refused one, as the provider claims that the service was activated by the user. While most customers don’t follow up on their refunds as the trouble outweighs the money they have paid, here’s what you can do to get your refund.
-
- VAS services can only be activated by requesting the service and then confirming the request. So, the first thing you have to do is to ask your service provider to show the record of your request.
-
- In case you’re not happy with customer care’s response, you can approach the nodal officer of your operator. The nodal officer must resolve your complaint within a month.
-
- If you’re still not satisfied, you can appeal to the appellate authority of your service provider. Log on to www.trai.gov.in/serviceproviderslist.asp for the contact details of the nodal officer and appellate authority of your provider.
-
- If your complaint remains unresolved, call the national consumer help line at 1800-11-4000, register a complaint, and send the complaint number you receive to the nodal officer.
