The best laptops balance portability with power, and speed with battery life. Find out how to navigate this complex market and check out our three newest Right Choices
Choosing a laptop over a desktop gives you the freedom to use your computer on the move. It also means you can take advantage of wireless networking to surf the net anywhere that has a Wi-Fi connection.
With their rise in popularity, laptops have also become more affordable. Even cheaper laptops are able to perform most of the tasks a PC can.
However, spending the same amount of money on a desktop PC or Mac will still get you more in terms of raw specification and power. This will usually only matter if you’re a ‘power user’ who performs heavy tasks such as editing videos or playing the latest games.
Depending on your needs, it is first important to understand the different kinds of laptops, and the features available at various price points. For instance, if you’re not into gaming, you needn’t spend that extra money on a top-of-the-line graphics card; and if you travel a lot, it is worth checking the battery life and how long the laptop takes to recharge.
For this report, we’ve tested nine laptops on criteria such as overall performance, ease of use, sound, image quality and more, and picked three Right Choices.
