They may not be as powerful as desktop PCs, but in a world on the move, portable computers are quickly becoming indispensable. We’ve tested 15 of the hottest new laptops and netbooks to help you choose the one that’s right for you.
Laptop computers are gaining popularity, with more and more people ditching the better specs of traditional desktops for improved portability. While they’re still far behind desktops on popularity, according to the Manufacturers Association for Information Technology (MAIT), 1.1 million laptops were sold in the first half of the fiscal year 2009-10, an increase of 43% over the corresponding period in fiscal year 2008-09.
This is not only because the technology has become cheaper. The spread of Wi-Fi and improved specifications have also contributed to the rise in laptop sales. Laptops give you the flexibility to connect to the internet from pretty much anywhere, and are efficient enough to be a complete replacement for your desktop PC. We’ve tested eight netbooks and seven laptops on all the key aspects, such as comfort, screen quality and keyboard.
Netbooks are small, light and inexpensive laptop computers, fine for general computing and accessing web-based applications. They are often marketed as ‘companion devices’, whereas laptops are often seen as a complete alternative to the bulkier, though more resourceful, desktop.TO READ FURTHER...
