Washing your hands is your first line of defence when it comes to preventing the spread of disease. It does not just prevent a common cold, but can also help avoid illnesses such as diarrhoea, swine flu and other contagious diseases. So it’s vital that you and your family choose the right brand of hand wash.
When choosing a hand wash, most of us have little to go on apart from advertised claims. We trust that popular brands are well-equipped to clean our hands thoroughly.
But how do these brands compare against each other? Are they all equally good at ridding your hands of dirt, or are some more effective than others?
To find out, we tested six popular hand washes in our lab (see ‘How we test). Our tests reveals some surprising results.
