Malt drinks taste test
Doctors recommend no more than 20-30g of sugar a day. One glass of our taste test favourite Chocolate Horlicks exhausts a third of this requirement. So are malt drinks really healthy?
In February, we visited Holy Cross School in Juhu, Mumbai, to find out which malt drink children liked best. Our testers were the school’s Std III and IV students. With the notion that most six- and seven-year-olds have quite a pronounced sweet-tooth, we wanted to find out whether they preferred drinks that had the highest sugar content. We picked the four most popular chocolate malt brands for the taste test – Chocolate Horlicks, Chocolate Complan, Bournvita and Boost.
Malt beverages are very popular with children – and adults – so it’s not surprising that, even though we did not tell them which brands they were tasting, several girls and boys were readily able to identify their favourite.
