Timeshare
What can potentially go wrong with your timeshare holiday and what you can do about it
The concept of a timeshare holiday package is promising. You pay the hefty membership fee now for access to numerous resorts at a certain time for each of the next 25 years. It is true that every company collects an annual maintenance fee (which with Club Mahindra ranges from Rs. 9,681 to Rs. 19,069) and this rises every year, but aside from this, your holiday is inflation-free.
But purchase of a timeshare package entails a certainty regarding where and how you will holiday for 25 years. Would you hinge the enjoyment of 25 future holidays on a service you haven’t once experienced yourself? Perhaps you’ve had the opportunity to visit a tour operator’s resort, but this information may still not be adequate to vet a particular timeshare company, simply because not all the properties offer the same services or maintain the same standard. Sterling Resorts, for example, has two RCI Gold-Crown-rated properties, but the other 15 resorts have no rating.
