3D TV is a generic term for technology that lets home viewers experience TV programmes, movies, games, and other video content in a stereoscopic effect. It adds the illusion of a third dimension – depth – to current TV and HDTV displays, which are limited to only height and width (2D). Based on new LED technology, 3D TV can also be broadcast over the internet. 3D at the cinema has been a runaway success and the major companies in home entertainment are hoping it takes off in the home too. Samsung, Sony, Panasonic, LG, Toshiba and Philips have invested a lot in 3D. In March 2010, Sony launched its Bravia 3D range of TVs in India.
